Artist Biographies
Deau Eyes is the brainchild of RVA-based singer, songwriter, record producer, performing artist, and arts educator, Ali Thibodeau. Deau was recently recognized on NPR as Slingshot’s 2023 Artist to Watch and her sophomore album Legacies won the 2023 Newlin Music Prize.
Thibodeau got her start performing in musical productions as a teenager in the RVA theatre scene. She won and was nominated for several Richmond Theatre Critics Circle Awards, and continued to work in regional theaters and theme parks around the US. In her early twenties, she found herself living and auditioning in NYC, whilst cutting her teeth on the guitar in underground open mics, singing in subway stations to get by.
After several years in New York, she busked her way around Europe and onto a cruise ship as a country singer for Carnival Cruise Lines. In those days her original songs and style were still forming to what would become a melting pot of influences we now know as Deau Eyes. Her first album was made a few years later at Trace Horse Studios in Nashville, TN with Collin Pastore and Jacob Blizard (Lucy Dacus, boygenius, illuminati hotties) and released on Egghunt Records in 2020. Her self-released sophomore album Legacies was co-produced with DJ Harrison (Butcher Brown, Grammy nom.) and Scott Lane (Overcoast Music + Sound) and would take her to her first official showcase at SXSW in 2022.
Deau Eyes has supported artists on tour such as Lucy Dacus, Josiah Johnson, and Illiterate Light and is projected to open up for both Say She She and The Head and The Heart in Charlottesville this summer.
