Genworth LightsUp! Presents Everybody Dance Now

FRIDAY: Happy Friday! To round out our week, we've got a workshop that the whole family can enjoy! Learn about the history of salsa and flamenco and then stick around for a dance class from Ana Ines King- the founder and artistic director of Latin Ballet of Virginia! Grab the entire family and throw a zoom dance party tonight to show off those moves!

THURSDAY:Today's workshop is for our older students! If you've got a pair of tap shoes in your closet just waiting to be used again, throw them on and join in on the fun with Jarrodd "JT" Beverly! Did you know that Mr. Beverly has shared the stage with tap masters such as LaVaughn Robinson, Diane Walker, Savion Glover from "Happy Feet", Donald O'Connor from "Singing In The Rain", and Jimmy Slyde? Now YOU can share the virtual stage with him through Lights Up! Along with teaching classes, Mr. JT works for Young Audiences of America where he teaches in schools nationwide the history of Tap and how math, music, and dance come together.

Special thanks to Legacy School of Dance for letting Mr. JT film his workshop in your beautiful space!

WEDNESDAY: Gather your itty bitty dancers for today's workshop release! Greater Richmond Wolf Trap teaching artist Teri Miller Buschman leads our younger dancers through "The Ribbon Dance" while finding ways to help them wake up their dancing feet. Gather some scarves and join in the fun with your kids! (Ages 3-7)

Greater Richmond Wolf Trap believes in the transformative power of the arts in early childhood education! GRWT teaching artists provide arts integration residencies to early childhood classrooms in the Greater Richmond area.

TUESDAY: It's Day 2 of EVERYBODY DANCE NOW and do we have a treat for you! Today's workshop comes to us from our friends at Richmond Urban Dance! Join dance artist Faith Helmlinger as she teaches a combo to the song "Runaway Baby" by Bruno Mars. (Ages 11-18)

RUD's mission is to bring street style into the studio and showcase the raw talent and passion found in our community. To reflect our core values and create a positive and safe space for our dancers to grow their talents and become contributing members of our community.

MONDAY: Our first workshop comes to us from Richmond Ballet's Minds in Motion artists: This year, the Minds in Motion team is hard at work putting their 4th grade curriculum into video format so that students can continue to access this incredible program. Today, you get a sneak peek at what they've been cooking up in the studio! Take a road trip through Virginia’s Regions with artists Jordan Glunt & Paul Dandridge. (Ages 7-10)

5, 6, 7, SIP!

On 8/26/20, RPAA's Associates Board hosted 5, 6, 7, SIP! - a FREE virtual hip hop class featuring Richmond Urban Dance (RUD) and special guest bartender, Beth Dixon of Perch.

Don’t worry if you missed the original livestream – the event is still available for viewing! Not only will you learn a new street-style dance routine to show off when the clubs reopen, you will also learn how to make 3 unique cocktails to refresh yourself during the dance breaks AND impress your friends at your next "approved" social gathering! No experience as a dancer or mixologist is required and you can LITERALLY dance like no one is watching!
