Providing transformative arts education for students of all ages is at the heart of the mission of RPAA. Since 2009, the BrightLights Education Initiatives have aimed to serve educators, students, and families from across the Richmond region. We are working to increase equity in access to the arts and arts education for students, educators, and families through these programs:
- Greater Richmond Wolf Trap (GRWT) – arts integration residencies in early childhood classrooms
- Baby Artsplay!™ – a program of GRWT offering community-based arts engagement for children 3-36 months and their caregivers
- Lights Up! Youth Series – free arts workshops and performances for students of all ages
- Digital Arts Lab – accessible video production courses in an after school format for middle and high school students
Our programs take place in schools, community settings, and in the venues of RPAA. We believe in the power of the arts to enrich, enliven, and educate children and adults in transformative ways, which inevitably improves the quality of living across our region.
In addition to our work in arts education, RPAA serves as an advocate for the arts and arts in education. Together we are a voice for the incredible work being done by arts teachers in schools across our region. We champion the vibrant arts education programs of our resident companies, arts partners, and colleagues.
