RPAA Night: brahms & strauss
Richmond SymphonyOctober 24, 2026 | 7:30 PM Carpenter Theatre at Dominion Energy Center
Valentina Peleggi leads a program rich in character, reflection, and musical storytelling. Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier Suite opens the evening with its sumptuous orchestration, sparkling waltzes, and nostalgic elegance. The program then turns to Stars and Sand by Richmond-born composer Mary Howe, whose evocative score captures both lyric beauty and a distinctive American voice. The evening culminates with Brahms’ sweeping and deeply personal Piano Concerto No. 1, featuring the return of acclaimed pianist Jon Kimura Parker in one of the repertoire’s most powerful and emotionally compelling works.
Run time
The musical Avenue Q runs for 2 hours and 15 minutes, which includes one 15-minute intermission.
Age Recommendation
Avenue Q is generally recommended for ages 13 and up (comparable to a PG-13 or R rating) due to adult themes, strong language, and puppet nudity.
About RPAA Night
RPAA Night connects Greater Richmond community members with free tickets to a wide range of live performances throughout the region. Through partnerships with Broadway in Richmond, RPAA’s resident companies, and other local arts organizations, participants can experience everything from Broadway productions at Altria Theater to performances by Richmond’s own theatre, music, and dance companies.
This program is specifically designed for individuals and families for whom the cost of attending a live performance would otherwise be a barrier. By removing that financial barrier, RPAA Night creates opportunities for more people to experience the arts and feel connected to Richmond’s performing arts community.
